This stunning piece will certainly be the ice breaker at any event! A large oval focal design hangs supported by similar but smaller oval pieces on either side. Have the chain adjusted to length that suits you. The vintage Pashtun lapis lazuli necklace is completely hand constructed, with hand cut embellishments soldered on. It is hollow inside, but closed in the back. The lapis stones are large and of the highest quality. Embedded glass seed beads decorate the borders around the lapis, calling images of gardens and abundance.
There is silver content in the metal, but we don’t know how much. The edges around the silver pieces also show sign of wear. The Pashtun are the largest ethnic majority of Afghanistan and this is one of their jewelry samples. Like their needlework, they are drawn to organic shapes that reflect nature.

Afghanistan has been at the heart of the crossroads for the Silk Road for centuries. Nomads and generations of ethnic groups have thrived on trade and beautiful handicraft skills. Textiles, embroidery and carpet weaving continue to represent a plethora of skills that extend on into metal work, wood work, and ceramics. Designs reflect both the beauty of nature and life of spirit in choice of colors and fluidity of the design.
