Weigh yourself down with this huge pendant! Ornate and intricately detailed, it looks like something King Henry the VIII might have worn. The vintage lapis lazuli pendant is completely hand constructed, with hand cut embellishments soldered on. It is hollow inside, but closed in the back. It does show wear, both on the front and in back. The lapis lazuli stone in the middle is a deep navy blue with gold flecks and has a carved antilope (gazelle?) carved into it.
Metal content: high in silver, with other unknown metals mixed in. The flowers are gold plated and glass seed beads decorate the flower petals. The Pashtun are the largest ethnic majority of Afghanistan and this is one of their jewelry samples.

Afghanistan has been at the heart of the crossroads for the Silk Road for centuries. Nomads and generations of ethnic groups have thrived on trade and beautiful handicraft skills. Textiles, embroidery and carpet weaving continue to represent a plethora of skills that extend on into metal work, wood work, and ceramics. Designs reflect both the beauty of nature and life of spirit in choice of colors and fluidity of the design.
