These polished teardrop white magnesite nuggets would make a great statement piece! Magnesite looks very similar to turquoise and is sometimes referred to as “white turquoise”. It takes color well, and can be easily dyed. The color of these beads vary from a soft bone white to cream, accented by brown to almost black veins. Average Dimensions: Bead Size: 15mm wide, 20mm long, 4mm thick Strand Length: 12 inches (30 centimeters) 46 beads per strand Please examine the photos carefully. We have made every attempt to get as close to the color as possible, but different monitors do interpret these colors differently. And, you will notice that the sizes of the beads do vary from strand to strand. Flaws, hairline cracks and uneven finishing is part of this handmade process. From artfire.com: “Magnesite is a mineral, magnesium carbonate, that has the same crystal structure as calcite. It usually forms when magnesium-rich rocks, such as serpentine or dolomite, are exposed to carbon dioxide-rich water. Magnesite has the same hardness and texture as turquoise and marble. It has a dull luster to it, sometimes looking like unglazed porcelain. The most common color is white although the mineral can also be colorless, yellow, gray, tan or pink. Metaphysically, magnesite is said to bring deep peace when worn while meditating or relaxing. It encourages a positive attitude to life. Promoting tolerance, it is believed to allow the wearer to accept the self and to take others for who they are without the desire to change them.” Visit our Etsy shop for more beads and other tribal jewelry and textiles! _______________________________ Afghan Tribal Arts specializes in handcut, unpolished beads from Afghanistan and the region. Working with artisans directly in the Peshawar region, your purchase helps support small workshops who work in traditions established over centuries in the Silk Road. Afghanistan has great wealth in its natural resources, including an endless variety of semi-precious stones. Unpolished stones take in the oils of the skin with wear and develop a deep patina over time. Recognizing that these strands are more expensive than the dyed and commercial stones that flood the market these days, we encourage our customers to think of buying with other friends and splitting the strands or to buy quantity in order to save on shipping.
