Start your morning with a handmade ceramic porcelain mug with fish, butterflies, dragonfly, frog & waterlily. One of a kind pottery mug by Botanic2Ceramic, hand built functional art by Sue Capillo. Life on the Lagoon Mug Imagine you’re looking out over the lagoon in a wild area of Michigan. You hear the frogs and crickets, you see the butterflies and flighty and carefree dragonflies flitting from here to there over the surface of the water. Waterlily blossoms and leaves are abundant. It’s so peaceful. In this cup, I try to convey the feeling of and living harmoniously with nature. Each mug is individually hand carved and hand painted,so no two mugs will ever be the same. This carved and incised mug is hand built out of fine English porcelain. I use glazes that I specially make to flow and merge with other glazes. This gives an Impressionist painting effect to the piece. High fired to ^9 (2350 degrees) in a gas reduction kiln. Since this is hand built, the cup rim may not be perfectly round. The size is 4 1/2″ x 3″ x 4 1/2″ tall. It holds 14 oz (414ml) of liquid. My pottery is food, dishwasher and microwave safe. Comes in a gift box. I can send your package directly to your family & friends with a personalized note card. When checking out let me know your message in “notes to seller” AND put in the recipients address where prompted. I’ve been involved with clay for as long as I can remember. My mother was a jewelry artist and an oil painter. During the summer she had access to clay, a wheel and a kiln at a wonderful rustic summer school of art in Michigan. So, to keep me out of trouble she got me started in my lifelong passion – ceramics.
I worked on and off with clay through school and then while raising my family. When my youngest started school, the time was ripe! I went back to the same art summer school that I started with decades before. That was over 20 years ago.
It took me a long time to find my voice in ceramics. I made bowls, mugs and vases that didn’t have any spark for me and looked like many other potters. After I became a Master Gardener and was working as a garden designer, I noticed how many people live in the green room behind their houses – their backyards. I thought why not bring a sense of the outdoors into my pottery.
Botanic2Ceramic was born.
Most of my listings here on Artizan Made link to my shop on Etsy where you will find beautiful original pottery for your home and your garden, all made of the highest quality of porcelain or white stoneware. Garden and nature has been a huge part of my life and I bring that influence into my ceramics. My handmade pottery is one-of-a-kind since each piece is made individually, one at a time.
My ceramics are meant to be used, loved and become a cherished part of your daily life.
I feel incredibly fortunate that I found ceramics (or it found me!). I love doing what I do and I hope it shows.
Botanic2Ceramic offers handcrafted functional art pottery and ceramics that are inspired by nature and by the Arts and Crafts Mission Style. Every piece is handmade by Sue Capillo in porcelain or white stoneware. She makes all of her own food safe glazes and high fires to cone 9, which makes the piece extremely durable for daily use.
