Blonde Onyx Jade Bead: Hand Carved Taweez
Afghan Tribal Arts has been importing from Afghanistan and the region since the 1980’s. The focus is on vintage textiles and tribal jewelry as well as new gemstone beads made for jewelry designers. Clicking on the Shop on Etsy button will take you to our shop there where you can see what is currently in stock.
This listing is for one bead, similar to the ones pictured. Each is a bit different as they are individually carved. If you need more than one and would like them to match, we can pick the closest ones possible. Make sure to leave a note when you check out with instructions. The hole goes through the top two parts. This design is a copy of a taweez, a prayer box, normally made out of silver. A prayer or piece of the Koran would be inside the bottom tube, serving as an amulet for protection. Refer to the image with the ruler for size. The group photo shows some of the other carved beads we carry. Check our shop for availability: http://www.etsy.com/shop/AfghanTribalArts?section_id=6557508 Please examine the photos carefully. We have made every attempt to get as close to the color as possible, but different monitors do interpret these colors differently. Flaws, hairline cracks and uneven finishing is part of this handmade process. Working with artisans directly in the Peshawar region, your purchase helps support small workshops who work in traditions established over centuries in the Silk Road. Afghanistan has great wealth in its natural resources, including an endless variety of semi-precious stones. Unpolished stones take in the oils of the skin with wear and develop a deep patina over time. Free shipping on all purchases over $100 in the US. (Discounts given on shipping for international orders over $100.) We use the USPS flat rate envelopes for shipping and can fit a lot into one envelope.
