This large square pendant will certainly draw attention when worn! Wear it with a thick silver chain, black leather or use it as a centerpiece in a beaded necklace. The piece is completely hand constructed, with hand hammered designs along the side. It is hollow inside, but closed in the back. It does show wear, both on the front and in back. The stone in the middle, lapis lazuli, has a horse carved into it. Gold or copper leaf accents the four corners. The Pashtun are the largest ethnic majority of Afghanistan and this is one of their jewelry samples. Like their needlework, they are drawn to organic shapes that reflect nature. Islam forbids using animal or people in their designs, one more sign that this was probably made by a tribal group in a remote area. The Kuchi, for example, sometimes incorporate animal motifs in their pieces. As nomads, they have often lived outside the norms of educated urban Muslims. Estimated age: 50-75 years Dimensions: 1.75″ wide x 2.25″ long Metric: 4.5 cm wide x 6 cm long Free shipping world wide on this pendant. ______________ Visit our shop here on Etsy for more tribal jewelry and great semi-precious stones that have been handcarved into beads.
