Rachel Biel, AKA Rayela Art, recycles dog food bags into purses and pursues a variety of textile art techniques. She also sells vintage finds in her Etsy shop.

“I make and wear many hats! I have found the marriage of all of my interests through the world of textiles and advocating for the people and cultures represented. I run TAFA: The Textile and Fiber Art List along with Artizan Made (this site), worked with clay for three years, and am passionate about how the handmade lifestyle can contribute to a more creative, just and sustainable world. I have worked with hand crafted work from around the world since 1988.

My shop on Etsy has vintage tribal textiles, supplies for textile artists, some vintage things I’ve picked up along the way, and things that I make, too. Most of the things I make use recycled materials, like the outer wrapping of dog food bags.  I often stitch into the wee hours of the night.”

I have started working on a new project where TAFA (www.tafalist.com) and Artizan Made will have a physical space in Paducah, Kentucky, where I live. We will be able to have a gallery, workshops and it will be a part of a larger effort to develop cultural awareness and a greening of Paducah. Very exciting! http://www.rayela.com/green-roof-paducah-culture-house/
