Gini Holmes is a traditionally trained print maker who loves mixing the old with the new. She received her BFA from Stanford University in lithography and painting and her Masters of Science in Visual Studies from Mass. Institute of Technology in experimental graphics.
Experimenting with new media and combining the traditional with the nontraditional has always been a major focus. Her recent explorations into print making encompass inkjet print transfers onto metal, wood, handmade paper and fabric and embellished with varied textile techniques (embroidery, beading, flocking, quilting.)
She has completed public art pieces for the city of Redding's Aquatic Center, Turtle Bay Boat Launch, Redding Civic Center and the Redding YMCA. Her work is included in both private and public collections in the USA and abroad.
Gini has been working with longtime friend Sandy Scott to create one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories for Goddesses of all shapes and ages. They design and print, both digitally and botanically, the fabrics for their clothing and accessories themselves. No printing is ever the same. Their digital designs are inspired by photos they have taken, drawings they have made, family stories, and “interpretations” of public domain images. They create their botanical prints by steaming or boiling cloth bundled with plant materials as well as using the plants for hand stamping. Their Shibori fabrics use the traditional Japanese technique of shaping and tying cloth before dyeing.
