Hippo Bowl

Description

A hand painted hippo bowl in white clay. The inside is glazed in a color called opal gray, but is all kinds of shades of grays and purples It measures 4 3/4 inches tall and 7 1/2 inches long. The diameter of the opening is 7 inches. This hippo could be used for fruit, change, to throw your keys into or just for display. It is also food safe so it could be a serving dish. It is also dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. He stands on 4 feet and has a tail. One picture is shown with a soda can for a size reference and one has my hand holding it.

For some of my animal pieces, I throw the body or “bowl” first on the wheel. When it is dry enough to handle, I alter it to make whatever animal suits the bowl shape by maybe adding feet, head and a tail. Sometimes I throw a certain shape for a specific animal and then it morphs into something else entirely. Some pieces have underglaze added for detail and are clear glazed while others just get coated in colored glaze. I like them to be whimsical and fun so I tend to play loose with shapes and colors. No one piece is ever exactly like the next, so they are all original and one of a kind.

I believe in recycling all of my packaging materials as to save on waste. What is inside the box is really pretty but the outside might be a box and packing paper I have received from someone else. I try and double box all of my pieces as much as possible for protection so they will also be heavier than normal. Since everything I create is one of a kind, I try and keep it as safe as I can while it is traveling to its new home.
