Description
This statement necklace is made with 3 focal Kiffa beads, red coral graduated melon beads, Ethiopian brass sheet metal beads, and Ghana Krobo powdered glass beads. Gold plated clasps, chain and findings.
L Adjustable 16-22″ Graduated red coral melon beads and brass Ethiopian metal beads. Three Kiffa beads as focals. Predominantly blue Krobo powder glass and recycled glass beads
Kiffa beads are a special kind of bead made in Mauritania. The technique of making them had almost died with the last of the traditional bead makers. The old beads are very rare and desirable. The Kiffa beads used here are recent, using the old technique. They do not match the quality in the technique of the old beads though they employ the same styles and are very beautiful in themselves
The patterned and light blue recycled glass beads are made by people in Ghana and neighboring areas. The Krobo glass powder bead patterns imitate the old trade beads imported into Africa from Venice and other places.
Tribal and ethnic style necklaces are definitely a major trend. They are colorful and their history and production is an interesting story. Unlike any necklace anywhere else.
Matching earrings available in separate listings.
