Winter Blues? Perk up your day with warm handmade wool.

Winter Blues? Perk up your day with warm handmade wool.

A year ago I started learning how to knit and am now a yarn addict. I live in a drafty shack of a house and when the cold hits, the wool comes out: leg warmers, socks, fingerless gloves, hats, blankets, anything warm. I have a friend who has knit me many wonderful accessories over the years and am thrilled that I can now make some of my own. My first scarf (I had no clue…) ended up being very wide and I still have not decided whether to close it up and wear it like one of Inese’s Wrapture Cafe Wraps or whether to keep it flat. It would look a lot like this if I closed it:

Of course, you can head on over to her shop and pick your own: Wrapture by Inese

Learning how different yarns knit up has been fascinating to me. You really can’t tell by looking at a skein how something will look until you start working it. Wool itself is such an amazing material! It can be woven, felted, knitted, crocheted and mixed with other fibers, takes on new properties affecting drape, sheen, smoothness, itchiness and more.

Do you have any woolens that you enjoy? Tell us about your favorite warm handmade wool goodies in the comments! Have you made any yourself? We’d love to hear about how wool makes your winter a perkier time of the year. Feel free to post links to your sites if you have images you want to share.
