This one-of-a-kind unlined cotton jacket is perfect as a lightweight but stylish casual cover-up for that chilly morning or afternoon. This one-size-fits most Fair Trade jacket features authentic Central Asian ikat patterns in the long traditional “chapon” style of Central Asia. Hand-crafted by the artisans of Arinumcrafts in Khujand, Tajikistan, it measures 39″ at the center back and features decorative hand-woven braided trim. Dry cleaning is recommended.
Arinumcrafts is one of the select group of small Central Asian master artisan groups that work with HoonArts Fair Trade. Arinumcrafts is headed by Munira Akilova, who has a passion for preserving and revitalizing the traditional patterns and ornaments from the Zerafshan River Valley of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in designs for the modern woman. Each piece “has its own meaning.” Her designs have received the UNESCO Award of Excellence and have been exhibited at international fairs and exhibitions. She works with a team of impoverished women from rural mountain villages in the Panjakent region of Tajikistan (just across the border from Samarkand) and in the villages surrounding Khujand, helping them to build a future beyond daily survival.
