I’ve thrown two types of clay, dark and light, to create bands of alternating colors on my handmade Stoneware clay coffee mug or tankard. Bold primitive patterns in blue and black compliment the light and dark wood grain like patterns.
The light clay has speckles for even more interest and the thumb rest features a spiral.
SIZE: 5.25″ x 3.75″ (13.5 cm x 9.5 cm) This rustic large sized mug / tankard holds approx. 20 ounces and is has a nice heft for boyfriend’s, husband’s or anyone’s favorite brew. I like this size for a large tea, warm or iced.
Glazed with a non-toxic clear glaze, my mug is food safe, can be put in the microwave for short warm ups and placed in the dishwasher.
Each of my pieces are individually created with my original artistic designs and is as unique as the person holding it.
All pottery from Clay Lick Creek Pottery is handmade by me in Makanda, IL, using an electric wheel or a slab roller. I use a traditional red earthenware clay (unless noted) for my pottery. Bottoms are trimmed to create a foot ring and are signed and dated. After trimming and drying, I fire in the kiln to cone 04 to bisque it. Afterwards, I dip the pottery into homemade majolica glaze, which is the opaque white background glaze, then I use a brush to paint ceramic colorants onto the raw glaze surface. Then back into the kiln again to cone 05 to seal the glaze surface. Pieces can be used in the microwave for quick warm ups (unless noted) and top rack of the dishwasher (unless noted). All orders ship USPS Priority (2-3 business days) or Parcel Post (2-9 business days) — and I usually ship same day or next business day.
I’m open to custom orders. For more details, check out my Shop Policies link or Convo me for more information.
If this is a gift and you’d like me to include a card with the package, let me know the wording in the notes to seller at check out.
Karen Fiorino lives in Southern Illinois, USA, where there are wonderful forested areas. She named her business, Clay Lick Creek Pottery, after a creek that flows through her property. Her colorful majolica bowl designs are inspired by nature: fruits and flowers, bumble bees, wild animals and the cats, dogs and chickens who live with her. Karens work is functional, intended to brighten life in the home and to bring a smile, especially from the delightful animals that inhabit her forest of clay. The snot nosed yarn bowls will certainly inspire a guffaw or two, a definite ice breaker at your next knitting meet-up! Visit her shop on Etsy for all of her work: Shop on Etsy
The smaller bowls range in price from $20-$30 USD, while larger bowls and the yarn bowl can go up to around $80 USD. Karen sells from her shop on Etsy and ships worldwide. The bowls are lead free, dishwasher and microwave safe.
