A GIFT FROM THE HEART
Are you looking for a wedding or engagement gift that will be cherished for a lifetime and won’t cost a fortune?
Contact me to commission an original work of art? You can choose the size, style, and frame color. You can also request a headline (such as “Happy Life” shown here) or I can add the couple’s names.) I am happy to collaborate. Or if you prefer, just provide a photo and I’ll do the rest!
My technique is unique – you won’t see this kind of portrait anywhere else! The custom portrait shown here was created from a photograph which was transferred to linen and hand-embroidered with hundreds of french knots. It was a true labor of love. The combination of photography and fabric creates a modern yet timeless feel, bringing certain objects to life in 3-D. The style is playful and affectionate.
The portrait shown here is 9″ round. You can choose a different size or shape.
You can also commission a custom birthday, house or pet portrait. A sample is included here in the photos here.
NOTE: Prices start at $99. THE COST OF YOUR PORTRAIT, AS WELL AS PROCESSING TIME AND SHIPPING COST, WILL DEPEND ON THE SIZE AND COMPLEXITY OF YOUR PIECE. Once we have agreed on the details, I will calculate these for you.

I want to make you smile!
All my work is infused with color and a bit of whimsy.
These days, I’m charmed by vintage photos. Don’t most people look grim in antique portraits? That’s because they needed to sit still for the camera. But I’ve collected rare images of people having a great time. Across all these years, they can still make us smile.
You’ll see that spirit in my hoop art, which combines photo transfer with embroidery, beading and touches of antique lace.
My colorful felt pieces are all hand felted and hand dyed. They are truly a labor of love! I have to create my own fabric from raw wool – and then dye it several times – before I can even begin a design. (Whose idea was this?)
I also make custom pieces. Want one of your own photos transformed into a one-of-a-kind work of art? Commission me to create personalized wedding, engagement, anniversary, or birthday gifts. Or browse through my existing pieces and find one that speaks to you. Let’s talk!
This listing links to my shop on Etsy where you can see all that I have in stock. If this piece has been sold, I may be able to make you something similar.
P.S. For those of you who have asked, the answer is yes – Sunshine is my real name. I was born with it.
Amy Sunshine Designs
I am a fiber artist who has studied across the U.S. It is my deepest hope that my art will make you smile. In this world of technology and isolation, we forget that we are really all connected - across continents, and across time. I love finding vintage images of people from the past who have something to teach us today. And I love finding whimsy and joy wherever it may arise. My works draw on images from many eras of people having FUN. The materials have been gathered from across the world, with an emphasis on highest quality. Hand-made materials beat machine-made every time.I like to incorporate found objects into my work, and I especially like to play with the juxtaposition of reality and fantasy. For example, many of my hoop photos are embroidered in the background and realistic in the foreground - or vice versa. My felted pieces are very different from my hoops, and you won't see anything else like them on the web. Maybe this is because they are so labor-intensive: before I can begin to create a piece, I first have to create the felt from raw wool, and then dye it several times to make patterns. The felt collages are embellished with embroidery, knitting, and sometimes even rug hooking! Please browse around and let me know if anything strikes your fancy!Warm regards, Amy
