CherScapes Hand Dyed Scarves
Cheryl Rezendes of CherScapes sells hand dyed scarves, fabric, garments, stencils and finished garments in her shop on Etsy. Bernardston, MA, United States.
I am a mixed media artist, who has been working almost exclusively in fiber since 2003. Originally trained as a painter, I now make art quilts and one-of-a-kind hand dyed and painted garments and scarves as well as offering hand dyed and painted textiles and digitally printed versions of my original hand painted fat quarters
Each garment begins with a 3 yard piece of white fabric that is dyed and over dyed several times, using the ancient Japanese Shibori method of folding and clamping fabric. Many of you know this as tie dye.
The pattern pieces are then cut and embellished using a variety of surface design techniques including painting, stenciling, stamping, silk screening and beading before being exquisitely stitched into a jacket or vest.
The scarves are cut to length first, then dyed and embellished using the same techniques. Sometimes a garment or scarf is only dyed, and sometimes it is only painted.
All are made largely from silk, but I also use rayon, bamboo and sometimes cotton.
Also included in my shop are some of my wall hung, fine fiber art (otherwise known as art quilts) and my hand dyed textiles. All the textiles are one-of-a-kind with limited yardage.
