Start your morning with a handmade ceramic porcelain coffee mug with cattails, butterflies, dragonfly and a frog on the edge of the water. One of a kind pottery mug by Botanic2Ceramic.
Life on the Lagoon Mug Imagine you’re looking out over the lagoon in a wild area of Michigan. You hear the frogs and crickets, you see the butterflies and flighty and carefree dragonflies flitting from here to there over the surface of the water. It’s so peaceful. In this cup, I try to convey the feeling of and living harmoniously with nature. Each mug is individually hand carved and hand painted,so no two mugs will ever be the same. This carved and incised mug is hand built out of fine English porcelain. I use glazes that I specially make to flow and merge with other glazes. This gives an Impressionist painting effect to the piece. High fired to ^9 (2350 degrees) in a gas reduction kiln. Since this is hand built, the cup rim may not be perfectly round.
4 1/2″ x 3″ x 4 1/2″ tall. It holds 14 oz (414ml) of liquid.
My pottery is food, dishwasher and microwave safe. Comes in a gift box.
Porcelain is a type of clay that fires at a very high temperature and will remain fairly white. My glazes are hand mixed to complement each other and many pieces have over 6 glazes working together. I fire to Cone (^) 9 in a large gas reduction kiln, which gets to 2350 degrees F. This type of firing is not computerized and I use my eyes, ears and nose to adjust temperature. I watch the flame to make sure it’s the right color and listen to the roar it makes. There should always be a slight odor of gas. It takes about 40 hours firing from start to finish.
This type of high firing makes the perfect piece for everyday usage in the kitchen or as tableware.
