Karen L Howard uses wood in her whimsical folk art pieces to tell a story. She works from her studio in Ferndale, California, USA, and has created characters for over 40 years. Her animals and people are delightful!

Karen talks about her roots:

“I grew up surrounded with creative people. Mom and Dad were rock hounds & made jewelry; Mom also decorated amazing cakes. And Dad wrote fun children’s stories. My Great Grandfather whittled wooden whistles. His daughter, my Gramma Grace carved beautiful wooden horses and birds and I was selected to learn from her in the fifth grade. So now it’s my turn. Hope you are pleased with what you see.”

Karen L Howard sells her work on Etsy, where she has an enthusiastic following who praise her in her reviews. One happy customer said about a carved raven standing on a tin can:

“This guy is so full of character. I love him and he makes me smile. It is almost as if he is about to start tap dancing any minute or about to start speaking on an important treatise. Karen thank you for sharing your gift.”  Each piece is one of a kind, calling out to just the right person!”
